The UK’s leading provider of unique business management and operational support services to the health and social care sectors, Apolline, is supporting the Mouth Cancer Foundation to sponsor a recently launched life saving initiative. The Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme calls for every dental practice to be carrying out a thorough head and neck examination at routine appointments. The scheme is a ‘Two minutes to save a life’ screening protocol, which is a 10-point checklist that every dentist should be able to include in order to increase early detection rates and save lives.
The scheme recognises dental practices that demonstrate a visible commitment to increasing public awareness of mouth cancer screening to all patients and to establish a documented referral pathway with a local specialist department.
Apolline is supplying the charity with a software solution to enable accurate reporting and tracking of cases and referrals. The charity will then analyse and report on the evidence.
Awareness is integral to achieving early detection of head and neck cancers, thus saving lives. The Mouth Cancer Foundation will accredit dental practices that meet certain criteria and routinely participate in oral cancer screening. Full membership includes access to a dedicated section of the charity website and FREE 1 hour CPD element as well as professional development and training modules suitable for all members of the practice team to ensure regular screening benefits practice patients.
Founder of the Mouth Cancer Foundation, Dr Vinod Joshi says “We are hugely grateful to Apolline who are joining Henry Schein, DPAS and ProDentalCPD in supporting our initiative. Working together with such well known companies, will enable us to save as many lives as possible through earlier detection of head and neck cancers. Gathering the evidence that Apolline will allow us to collect is vital.”
Apolline CEO, Pat Langley says “We’re thrilled to be sponsoring the Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme. It is a fantastic way of providing a life saving service in just two minutes. Every dental practice should be joining such a pioneering initiative.”
The Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme is open to any dentist registered with the GDC or any dental practice whose clinicians are registered with the GDC For more information please contact the Mouth Cancer Foundation via firstname.lastname@example.org or call +44 (0) 1924 950 950 for more information.
